Monday’s Games to Watch

As the season progresses, I’m making an adjustment to my written coverage to ensure I’m delivering the best possible content. Rather than publishing a large weekly “games to watch” article, I’ll be shifting to day-to-day updates highlighting what’s worth keeping an eye on each night.

As usual, Monday is relatively light on the high-major front. That said, there are still a handful of games tonight that project to be competitive and worth your time.

VCU and TCU are both in action against inferior opponents and should take care of business without much issue.

East Texas A&M travels to Hammond, Louisiana to face Southeastern Louisiana at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+. While this matchup doesn’t carry much national significance, it’s a solid opportunity to catch two teams that should play a competitive game.

McNeese heads to Houston Christian at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN+ in conference action. This is a game McNeese should handle comfortably.

The best game of the night takes place at the Sanford Pentagon, featuring South Dakota State and Wyoming. Wyoming is favored by 4.5 at the time of writing, but both teams are playing solid basketball, and this one has all the makings of a quality matchup. Catch it on ESPN+.

North Alabama travels to Alabama A&M at 8:00 p.m. in another game projected to be close. Expect a grind-it-out affair, as the total currently sits at 135.5.

Six teams are playing non-Division I opponents tonight. At this point in mid-December, with some programs already transitioning fully into conference play, I struggle to see the utility in winning games by 40 or 50. It’s something I would like to see change in scheduling philosophy. For example, why couldn’t Southern Indiana and Western Kentucky play each other tonight instead of hosting non-D1 opponents. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Let’s enjoy a solid couple of matchups tonight and get ready for a strong slate the rest of the week.
